Situations at Mercury Construction Company got worse, as about 176 workers of the company embarked on a total shut-down of operation on their site located at ExxonMobil field, Qua Iboe Terminal (QIT) in Ibeno Local Government Area.

Staffs of the Lebanese company decry the unfair treatment meted them by the company, ranging from poor salary ,welfare packages et al.
...
One Mr Longinus is alleged to be the cause of the numerous challenges faced by the workers.
According to the source who spoke to us on grounds of anonymity,
" some workers here earn as low as #24000 per month, and most times they are not paid on time.

In terms of welfare, 4 staffs are designated to live in one room and a square meal is given for a whole day.

The source also disclosed that ExxonMobil which is the mother company is paying Mercury Construction Company very well, but such is not reciprocated in their case.
It was also discovered that the company refused to hand them appointment letters hence
making them toothless dogs and slaves.

As at the time of this report, all efforts to reach the administration officer (Mr Godwin Edigbe) and the Community Interface Coordinator of the company (Mr Unyime Umoh) for further details, proved abortive , as non of them responded to telephone calls.
The workers however promised to sustain their actions and may also take legal steps should the company refuse to shift grounds.

They also called on ExxonMobil, Government and concerned individuals to intervention before it gets out of place.
