North Korea's foreign minister,Mr. Ri Yong-ho has accused United States President,Mr. Donald Trump of declaring war on his country.
Mr. Ri Yong-ho told reporters in New York that North Korea reserved the right to shoot down United States bombers.
The foreign minister maintained that North Korea can shoot down United States bombers even when they were not in North Korean airspace.
In recent times United States and North Korea have been engaged in an increasingly angry war of words.
After Mr. Ri Yong-ho addressed the United Nations last Saturday, the United States President, Mr. Donald Trump responded on his Tweeter account that Mr. Ri Yong-ho and North Korean President, Mr. Kim Jong-un "won't be around much longer if they continued their rhetoric".
Mr. Ri Yong-ho's response came as he was leaving New York, following the United Nations General Assembly. He remarked thus; "In light of the declaration of war by Trump, all options will be on the operations table of the supreme leadership of North Korea".
North Korea has continued to carry out nuclear and ballistic missile tests in recent weeks, in defiance of successive rounds of United Nations sanctions.
The country's leaders say nuclear capabilities are its only deterrent against an outside world seeking to destroy it.
After North Korea's latest and most powerful nuclear test earlier this month, the United Nations Security Council summoned an emergency meeting where new sanctions were approved on the country.
